DU students create shared living app for roommates

Three University of Denver students may have created the next big thing in mobile apps. The app is called PtchMe, and it allows roommates to split the shared costs of living together. The app was created as part of the Madden Challenge put on by the Daniels College of Business. The competition selects five top teams out of more than 80 entries. Those five teams then present their business models to a group of investors.

The Madden Challenge is an undergraduate case competition in which first-year business students develop and build a mobile app and present a business plan to bring it to market. A component the Gateway to Business class, the Madden Challenge was funded by a gift from John Madden, Jr., a Denver commercial real estate developer. A record 540 students enrolled in Gateway to Business in fall 2014 and competed in the Madden Challenge.

Marjorie Putt Madden passed away October 7, 2014; and in her memory Samson Park — the sculpture garden adjacent to Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village, Colorado — will be renamed Marjorie Park. Mrs. Madden is lovingly remembered as a wise and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as an artist with a twinkling eye for beauty and an affinity with nature.
